DCMADA Mentoring Program
The DCMADA organization has a long-standing reputation for providing educational, leadership, and networking opportunities to its members. The Washington D.C. Metropolitan area is one of rapid change and flux. In an effort to reach out to students, interns, new dietitians, and nutrition professionals who are new to the area, the DCMADA mentoring program will give such individuals an opportunity to seek guidance from other nutrition professionals that are well established in the field.
Purpose
- Provide career guidance
- Have someone to ask questions
- Networking - Meet other professionals in the area
- Give dietitians who have been in the field for many years an opportunity to give back and help younger dietitians
The mentor should serve as the initial contact person for questions about the organization, questions about career progression, and assistance with nutrition-related resources in the area. The partnership developed between the mentor and mentee should be mutually beneficial and should not place a burden on either party. Each mentor-mentee partnership is encouraged to have some type of contact either via phone, e-mail, or in person at least once every two months. Mentors and mentees are paired, when possible, based on common interests, career paths, backgrounds, etc. Each mentor and mentee is asked to fill out a questionnaire that is intended to elicit this information. The information about the mentees will be passed along to the mentor at the beginning of the partnership
